MINUTES
The regular meeting of the Brooklyn Center Park Board was held at the Village
Hall, 7:30 P.M., Monday, November 4, 1957. Members present were Paul Bullen,
Dallas Lawrence, and Frank Irvin. Minutes of the previous meeting were read
and appro-Ved.
Robert Corwin presented financial data regarding payment of $400,000.00 of
bonds maturing over twenty years with the first payment on principal deferred
three years.
The pamphlet "Brooklyn Center Park Plan" was presented and approved by the Board.
Five thousand pamphlets will be printed at an approximate cost of $155.00 with
a tag lire by Brooklyn Printing and Advertising Company.
The Junior 6hamber of Commerce will be in charge of distribution of the pamphlets.
Distribution will be to each house in the village on Saturday, November 160 The
Board agreed to allow expenses up to $20.00 for distribution, if needed. The
Jaycee's unanimously endorsed the Park Plan and will circulate a letter of
endorsement to all residents of Brooklyn Center.
To date, talks regarding the Park Plan and Bond Issue have been presented or
scheduled with the following organizations: Junior Chamber of Commerce, Green
Jeans Garden Club, Willow Lane P.T.A., Earle Brown P.T.A., American Legion,
Brooklyn Center Fire Department, Mrs. Jaycees, and the Lions Club.
The present Park fund balance of $13,322.91 was reported as of October 31, 1957.
The superintendent reported that work on building skating rinks was progressing.
Rinks are in the process of being leveled, dirt is being hauled where needed,
and supplies are being ordered to straighten and install guy wires on the poles
at the Earle Brown Hockey Rink. Two poles will be replaced by new poles donated
by Northern States Power.
The Superintendent was instructed to secure quotations on lumber for a hockey
rink to be located at Willow Lane School.
The board agreed that small rinks could be located at the following locations
providing the residents flooded and maintained the rinks and also providing that
the rinks are for public use. Tentative locations are in the vicinity of 67th
and Grimes Avenues North, and in or near the Garden City area.
I,lotion by Irvin, seconded by Lawrence, that the Park Board take a $15.00
membership in the American Institute of Park Executives.
The meeting was adjourned.
