HomeMy WebLinkAbout1957 05-06 PKBDMVILLAGE OF BROOKLYN CENTER PARK BOARD May 6, 1957 MINUTES The regular meeting of the Brooklyn Center Park Board was held at the Village Hall, 8:00 P.M., Monday, May 6, 1957. Members present were Paul Bullen, Dallas Lawrence, and Frank Irvin. The following developments for the Park property at 61st & France were discussed: a. Watering of trees b. Securinr stakes and day for the horseshoe courts co Securing sand for the sandbox d. Leveling ground e. Cleaning Area f. Extension for swing - "C12 -C;IT" The superintendent was instructed to r=ke arrangements for carrying out the above projects. Approval was given to improve the baseball diamonds at 59th and Humboldt by skinning the infield and building up the pitchers mound. Motion by Irvin, seconded by Lawrence, that the Park Board furnish the material for benches at the diamonds and also that the Board purchase a liner for marking the field. The Jaycees are to furnish the labor for installing the benches. Motion Carried. Motion by Lawrence, seconded by Irvin, that the board buy tnd install a backstop at Willow Lane School, and install the backstop at Northport School, subject to written approval of school authorities. Motion Carried. Motion by Irvin, seconded by Lawrence, that $2,500.00 be transferred to-`.the Recreation Commission fund to help defray expenses and salary of the Superintendent. Motion carried. The superintendent was instructed to work with the Village Administrator toward securing park maintenance labor for the summer. It was suggested that the Park Board pay the equivalent of one man's salary one day a week, plus rental costs of equipment. It was also suggested that for the period from October 1, 1957 to April 1, 19580 the Park Board pay the equivalent of one man half-time. Permission was granted the Jaycees to take collections at games and to dispense soft drinks at the area, provided all bottles, rubbish, etc. be picked up after each game. It was agreed that regular meetings of the Park Board be held the first Monday of each month. The meeting was adjourned. L_
