HomeMy WebLinkAbout1980 03-11 HCMMINUTES OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE HOUSING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER IN THE COUNTY OF HENNEPIN AND THE STATE OF MINNESOTA REGULAR SESSION MARCH 11, 1980 CITY HALL CALL TO ORDER The Brooklyn Center Housing Commission met in regular session and was called to order by Chairman Plummer at 7 :35 p.m. ROLL CALL Chairman Plummer, Commissioners Duenow, Williams, Turner, Ainas, Hastings and Haroldson. Also present was Administrative Assistant Brad Hoffman. Excused were Commissioner Cilke and Councilmember Bill Fignar. Commissioner_ Cohen arrived late. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 12 -11 -79 The December 11, 1979 Housing Commission minutes were amended to reflect that the dinners would be donated by businesses within the community. Motion by Commissioner Hastings and seconded by Commissioner Duenow to approve the December 11, 1979 Housing Commission minutes as amended. The motion passed unanimously. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1 -8 -80 Chairman Plummer noted that Commissioner Ainas had been excused for the January 8 Commission meeting. Motion by Commissioner Haroldson, seconded by Commissioner Ainas to approve the minutes for the January 8, 1980 Housing Commission meeting as amended. The motion passed unanimously. APPROVAL OF MINUTES_- 2 -12 -80 Motion by Commissioner Haroldson and seconded by Commissioner Turner to approve the minutes of the February 12, 1980 Housing Commission meeting. The motion passed unanimously. COMMISSIONER'S COMMENTS Chairman Plummer noted that Becky Yust from the St. Paul Energy Office was unable to attend the Housing Commission meeting because of a conflict in her schedule. She stated that Ms. Yust would appear and speak to the Commission at the April meeting. She also stated that Commissioner Cohen would be copies of St. Paul's energy packet that were distributed. HOUSING SEMINAR Chairman Plummer introduced the next agenda item by referring to the Housing Seminar brochure. Following a brief discussion, it was the consensus of the group that the brochure looked good. Chairman Plummer then inquired if letters had been sent to the speakers. Administrative Assistant Brad Hoffman indicated that they had. A brief discussion then followed relative to an ad to be placed in the Brooklyn Center Post. Administrative Assistant Brad Hoffman recommended that the posters that had printed be reduced for the Post ad. Chairman Plummer requested that mailings go out to other cities in the northwest area. Admin- istrative Assistant Brad Hoffman indicated that he would take care of that and that he would also place brochures and posters in the liquor stores. Chairman Plummer then passed out a sign up' sheet for the Commissioners to introduce speakers at the various seminars. Commissioner Haroldson indicated that he would fill in wherever he was needed. Chairman Plummer then requested that Karen Duenow and Mary Ellen Vetter of the Conservation Commission get together 3 11 80 -1- to devise a means to get people to the various rooms. A discussion then ensued relative to where and who would distribute posters and brochures. Following a discussion, the sign up sheet was distributed with each Commissioner being assigned responsibilities for distributing posters and brochures to various locations. Commissioner Williams recommended using radio ads on WCCO. Commissioner Cohen arrived at 8 :32 p.m. Administrative Assistant Brad Hoffman indicated that he would take the sign up sheets to the Conservation Commission to complete them. A brief discussion then ensued relative to when an ad should be run in the Post. It was agreed that the ad should be run in the March 27 edition. He also stated that Mary Jane Gustafson had agreed to do a brief article on the Housing Seminar. There was a brief discussion relative to the need for an evaluation sheet. It was the consensus of the Commission that an evaluation sheet should be distri— buted. A review of the old evaluation sheet then followed and Commissioner Cohen moved the adoption of an evaluation sheet using questions 1, 5, 6 and 8 from the old evaluation sheet. Commissioner Hastings seconded the motion and the motion passed with Commissioners Duenow, Williams, Turner, Ainas, Haroldson and Cohen voting for the motion and Chairman Plummer voting against. OTHER BUSINESS Commissioner Cohen distributed St. Paul's energy packet. Chairman Plummer requested that the Conservation Commission also get copies. Chairman Plummer reminded the group that Becky Yust from the St. Paul Energy Office would be at our next meeting. Commissioner Haroldson inquired as to when we would have a speaker from TCF to discuss the housing inspection program. Chairman Plummer indicated that the Housing Commission would take up the housing inspection ordinance again in May. ADJOURNMENT Motion by Commissioner Ainas, seconded by Commissioner Turner to adjourn the Housing Commission meeting. The motion passed unanimously and the Housing Commission adjourned at 9:17 p.m. Chairman
