HomeMy WebLinkAbout1992-045 CCR1 1 Member Dave Rosene introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 92 -45 RESOLUTION SUPPORTING A METROPOLITAN HOUSING REVITALIZATION FUND (HOUSE FILE 2741 SENATE FILE 2489) WHEREAS, new construction in developing suburbs has attracted residents from the central city and older suburbs; and WHEREAS, while such population movement provide opportunities for redevelopment they also cause financial burdens on those inner ring suburbs and central cities; and WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council's regional housing task force has made recommendations in three areas: additional funding for housing, new policy directions to guide housing and neighborhood revitalization programs and development of regional and local housing plans; and WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council has recommended the expansion of the housing trust fund to continue to finance the growing housing needs and the creation of a "regional housing fund" which could be used by local government to promote limited redevelopment of deteriorated residential areas when other strategies or redevelopment tools cannot be used in a cost effective manner; and WHEREAS, House File 2741 and Senate File 2489 have been introduced to create this fund. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Brooklyn that the City endorses the concept of the Regional Housing Fund and supports the implementation of this fund as contained in House File 2741 and Senate File 2489 and recommends support of this legislation by representatives and senators representing Brooklyn Center.
