HomeMy WebLinkAbout1987-100 CCR1 Member Gene Lhotka resolution and moved its adoption: May 4, 1987 Date ATTEST /1' Clerk RESOLUTION NO. 87 -100 introduced the following RESOLUTION DECLARING MAY 15, 1987 THROUGH MAY 21, 1987 AS DRUG AWARENESS WEEK WHEREAS, the use of drugs is becoming an increasing cancer in our society and communities; and WHEREAS, the Brooklyn Center City Council has declared war on drugs; and WHEREAS, the Brooklyn Peacemaker Center has volunteered to coordinate the program; and WHEREAS, in cooperation with Brookdale Center and the school districts, the program is being extended to the surrounding communities; and WHEREAS, a kickoff is being planned for the week of May 15, 1987 through May 21, 1987. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center that: 1. The week of May 15, 1987 through May 21, 1987 is hereby declared Drug Awareness Week in Brooklyn Center. 2. The churches of Brooklyn Center are encouraged to emphasize drug awareness and prevention of its usage. 3. The schools in the area are encouraged to emphasize drug education. 4. All citizens resolve to strive for a drug free society. V/ The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member Rich Theis and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Dean Nyqu ist, Gene Lhotka, Celia Scott, Bill Hawes, and Rich Theis; and the following voted against the same: none, whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
