APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes of March 30, 1988, were approved with the following
corrections: Barb Sexton should have been "excused" not "unexcused";
Chairperson Heitzig clarified with Commissioner Kuefler on his motion made
regarding the ward system that he meant instead of "table the issue
indefinitely" he meant to "postpone this issue indefinitely". Motion by Ed
Commers, seconded Everett Lindh to approve with these corrections. Passed
unanimously,
CORRESPONDENCE
Chairperson Heitzig stated that she had sent a letter to the City Manager
on May 16 to inquire if there were any legislative changes that were made
during the last session that directly affected the Charter Commission. She
also stated that a letter to Betsy Dick, Brooklyn Center Post editor, was
sent informing her of tonight's Charter Commission meeting,

*2pdated Charter Changes Pages
Chairperson Heitzig inquired if everyone had received copies of the charter
changes that were recently made. If anyone has not, please contact the
administrative assistant.
*Notice of Tfeetinv in Brnoklvn Center Post
Chairperson Heitzig stated to the Charter Commission that we have always
notified the Brooklyn Center Post's editor every time we have a meeting or
sub-committee meeting, and nearly 100% of the tine, the editor has posted
this notice in the paper. The editor has asked for our response, if there
is NOT room to post notice in the paper, would the Charter Commission then
feel a "paid" notice of meeting be put in the legal section of the paper?
Comments included: the Post should do it as they are the official newspaper
of the city; the paper can always find room; Minnesota Statutes state that
the official newspaper must dedicate at least half of the paper to business
of the city; we fulfill legal requirements by just posting meetings at City
Hall,
Notion by Marie Castle that since the Brooklyn Center Post is the official
paper of the city, it should be published; seconded by Jean Schiebel and
passed unanimously.
*Members Wbose Terms Will Be Exptring
Chairperson Heitzig reminded Tony Kuefler and Ed Commers that their current
terms expire on September 18, 1988, and if they would like to be
reappointed, they should contact Chief Judge, Peter Lindberg.
*Raguest foiL_apiral Bound Charter QaT?ies
Commissioner Anderson requested that he receive a spiral bound copy of the
City Charter and received explanation as to why we have gone to a three
hole punched copy for all members.
Anyone else who would like a spiral bound copy should contact the
administrative assistant.
