Member Gene Lhotka introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 83 -47
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE RETURN OF $65,000 IN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
GRANT FUNDS TO HENNEPIN URBAN COUNTY
WHEREAS, the City Council of Brooklyn Center appropriated $65,000 of
Community Development Block Grant Funds in Year VII for the construction of a
Senior Citizen Center; and
WHEREAS, the local office of Housing and Urban Development, contrary
to their regulations, have determined that a Senior Citizen Center does not
benefit low and moderate income people; and
WHEREAS, the City of Brooklyn Center does not have a readily available
and eligible project where such monies could be used:
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Brooklyn Center request that the money in the amount of $65,000 be returned to
Urban Hennepin County to be reappropriated to another community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the monies be made available first to
communities within our own planning area.

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by
member Rich Theis and upon vote being taken thereon, the
following voted in favor thereof: Dean Nyquist, Gene Lhotka, Celia Scott,
Bill Hawes, and Rich Theis;
and the following voted against the same: none,
whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
