BROOKLYN CENTER CHARTER COIVMISSION
Wednesday, March 7, 1979
Call to order: The meeting was called to order by Chairman Hannay at 8:05 p.m.
Present: Cheryl Asplund, Jerry Campion, Robert DeVries, Michael Beauchane,
William Hannay, Orlander Nelson, Barbara Swart, Vincent Tubman,
Edwin Theisen, and Ann Wallerstedt.
Absent: Donn Escher (in Washington D. C.) and Betty Johnson.
Minutes: Motion by Commissioner Theisen, seconded by Commissioner Campion that
the minutes of January 24 be approved. Motion carried.
Rules Committee: No report because of sickness of various members, committee
unable to meet.
Assign Study Committees:
Study Committee 1: Amendments 2, 4, and 6
Commissioner Theisen, Chair
Barbara Swart, Ole Nelson, Bob DeVries, Vince Tubman
Study Committee 2: Amendments 11, 13 and 15
Commissioner Campion, Chair
Mike Beauchane, Ann Wallerstedt, Cheryl Asplund
As soon as new members are avpointed, they will be assigned.
Kaleidoscope: Motion by Commissioner Nelson, seconded by Commissioner Tubman
that the Brooklyn Center Charter Commission have a booth at
Kaleidoscope. Motion carried unanimously. Ann Wallerstedt will
head the committee.
Discussion on amendments: Discussion was held concerning the outcome of the
amendments accepted by the council and those that have been reworded.
Apparently the city council is waiting to act on all amendments at once.
Has the city attorney written Amendment 24 gender changes?
Motion by Commissioner Asplund, seconded by Commissioner Theisen that
the chairman contact the League of Minnesota Cities to arrange a meeting
of the Charter Commission with their attorney. The Charter Commission
needs advice on procedures of presentation. The cost is to be paid
by the Charter Commission. Motion passed unanimously.
Adjournment: Motion by Commissioner Campion, seconded by Commissioner Beauchane
that the meeting be adjourned. Motion carried. The meeting adjourned at
9:20 p.m.
