HomeMy WebLinkAbout1977 07-20 CHCMMinutes of the Proceedings of the BROOKLYN CENTER CHARTER COMMISSION Wednesday, July 20, 1977 Applicants interviewed: June Scofield, Ann Wallerstedt, Vern Ausen, Gerald Campion, Don Escher, George Mayleben were informally interviewed by the commissioners. Don Nelson had submitted an application, but was not present. Call to order: Chairman Kanatz called the meeting to order at 7:53 p.m. T ..e er n m—D7s a v As -pl and Robert D Will- Ha .na r...�_ .,c::, _on rs %h2r Richard Higgins, Mona Hintzman, Viola Kanatz, Phullis Papke, Barbara Swart, Edwin Theisen, and Vincent Tubman were present. Absent: Commissioners Jim Gillen, Frank Kampmeyer, Betty Johnson (ill), and Orlander Nelson (couldn't make it) were absent. Minutes: Motion by Commissioner Hannay, seconded by Commissioner Swart that the minutes of June 15 be approved. Motion carried. Applicants' interviews: Chairman Kanatz wrote Chief Judge Eugene Minenko that she would appreciate knowing of anyone who had applied directly to the chief judge. He replied that only Theodore L. Willard had applied some time ago. Chairman Kanatz will write notes to applied for the previous vacancies that they may write directly to the Hennepin County District Court. Commissioners' comments: Motion by Commissioner Hannay, seconded by Commissioner DeVries that the individual commissioners may write comments to the chief judge on the applicants. Motion carried. Chairman Kanatz will inform Chief Judge Minenko that commissioners may be writing comments positive or negative about applicants. Study Group II Report: Motion by Commissioner Higgins, seconded by Commiss -_ones Asplund that any discussion of Study Group II action be deleted from consideration and that the study committee be asked to meet publicly covering the same material before it submits its report at the next charter commission meeting. Commissioner Asplund amended the motion, seconded by Comanissioner Hannay that Study Group I be included. Both motions passed. Motion by Commissioner Tubman, seconded by Commissioner Hannay that the motion include Study Group III. Commissioners Hannay, Hintzman, Papke; Swart and Tubman voted for the.motion. Commissioners Asplund, DeVries, Higgins and Theisen were opposed. Motion carried. Study group chairmen will reschedule meetings, inform city hall and the Brooklyn Center Post in advance of meetings.
