HomeMy WebLinkAbout1976 10-20 CHCMMinutes of the Proceedings of the BROOKLYN CENTER CHARTER COMMISSION Wednesday, October 20, 1976 Call to order: The meeting was called to order by Chairman Henry Dorff at 7 :38 p.m. Present: Commissioners Cheryl Asplund, Robert DeVries, James Gillen, Richard Higgins, Mona Hintzman, Frank Kampmeyer, Orlander Nelson, Glen Bullick, Mildred Hendrickx, Henry Dorff, Viola Kanatz, Barbara Swart, Edwin Theisen, and former Commissioner Elizabeth Lush were present. Absent: Commissioners Betty Johnson and ??alter Vennewitz (conflict) were absent. Minutes: Motion by Commis4oner Gillen, seconded by Commistoner Nelson that the minutes be approved. Notion carried. New Commissioners: The Executive Committee interviewed those interested in becoming charter commission members. Motion by Robert DeVries, seconded by crank Kampmeyer that the names of Neil Smeaton, Ann Schroeder, and William Hannay be submitted to the district chief. judge. Motion carried unanimously. Appointment of the Nominating Committee, Chairman Dorff appointed Commissioner Mildred Hendrickx, chairman, Frank Kampmeyer and Richard Higgins to the Nominating Committee for officers to be voted on at the .January meeting of the Charter Commission. Motion by Commissioner Ed Theisen, seconded by Commissioner Jim Gillen approving appointment of the nominating committee. Study Groups: The three study groups had not met. They are to make progress reports at the next charter commission meeting. Study Group I Chapter 2, Jim Gillen, vice chairman Study Group II Chapter 6, Vi Kanatz, chairman Study Group III Chapter 10 Ed Theisen, chairman. Audit Chairman's Report: Commissioner Hintzman reported an additional attorney's bill for $160 to cover research on Bob DeVries letter and response. Motion by Commissioner Swart that the mailing of charter commission minutes to our attorney, Steve Oman be discontinued. Motion eras seconded by Commissioner Hintzman. Motion carried. Vacancy of Commission's elected officers: Motion by Commissioner Kanatz, seconded by Commissioner Theisen that no action be taken at this time. Motion carried. Acknowledgement of service: Certificates signed by Chief Judge of District Court Donald T. Barbeau were presented to Elizabeth Bush who served on the Charter Commission from 1965 tb 1975, Henry Dorff who served. from 1965 to 1976, and Glen Bullick who served from 1972 to 1976. [:Taper Vennewitz was not present to receive his certificate Next meeting: The next meeting; of the Charter Commission was set for Wednesday, January 26, 1977. Hintzman Adjournment: Motion by Commissioner Theisen, seconded by Commissioner /that the meeting be adjourned. Motion carried.
