HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972 05-10 CHCMMinutes of the Proceedings of Brooklyn Center Charter Commission Mav 10, 1972 Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 7 :45 P.M. by Chairman Henry Dorff. Roll Call: Chairman Dorff introduced Commissioner Kanatz, a new member of Present 12 the charter commission. Chairman Dorff, Commissioners Britts, Absent 2 Erickson, Gillen, Hintzman, Kampmever, Kanatz, McArthur, Olson, Stanley, Vennewitz, Welsh, and City Attorney Schieffer were present. Commissioners Bush and Johnson were absent. Approval of Minutes: Motion by Commissioner McArthur, seconded by Commissioner Kanatz that the minutes of April 19, 1972 ba approved. Motion carried unanimously. Elections in odd numbered years: Commissioner McArthur submitted a letter from Mayor Cohen, who withdrew his proposal for Brooklyn Center municipal elections in odd numbered years. The sub- committee recommended that the proposal be tabled. Motion by Commissioner Erickson, seconded by Commissioner Stanley to accept the committee's recommendation that the proposal be tabled. Motion passed unanimously. Rules of Procedure: Commissioner Erickson presented a first draft of "Rules of Procedure" which he and his committee had written. Revisions in wording were discussed and the final draft will be considered at the next meeting of the charter commission. Council vacancies: Commissioner Kampmever recommended that section 2.05 of the citv charter be changed as suggested by City Manager, Don Poss. Should vacancies occur in the city council within 100 days of an election, the vacancy would be filled by regular election. The 60 day period was inoperable. Commissioner Kampmever moved to accept the recommendation of the sub committee, seconded by Commissioner Gillen. The motion was carried unanimously. Time between primary and general election: committee made no decision charter regarding number of election. Salaries: Section 2.07 of the citv charter state statute. Commissioner Kampmeyer's sub regarding section 4.02 of the city days between the primary and general will be updated to conform with the Next meeting: Chairman Dorff announced the next meeting of the Charter Commis- sion to be June 14 at 7 :30 P.M. Adjournment: Motion by Commissioner Hintzman, seconded by Commissioner Welsh that the Charter Commission adjourn. Motion carried unanimously. Adjournment was at 10:25 P.M.
