HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972 03-22 CHCMMinutes of the Proceedings of the Brooklvn Center Charter Commission March 22, 1972 The meeting was called to order by acting Chairman, John Winkelman at 7 :40 P.M. Roll Call: Chairman Winkelman, Commissioners Hintzman, Erickson, Kampmeyer, McArthur, Olson and Welsh. Commissioner Bush arrived after the roll call. Members absent were: Commissioners Britts and Stanley. The Chairman noted that he had been informed that Commissioners Dorff, Johnson, Vennewitz and Gillen would be unable to attend. Motion by Commissioner McArthur and seconded by Commissioner Kampmeyer to approve the minutes of the March 8, 1972 meeting as submitted. Motion passed unanimously. The Chairman reminded the Commissioners of the vacancy on the Charter Commission and that recommendation could be made at this time or privately to the executive committee. The Chairman stated that one inquiry had been received and one letter had been sent to the District Court submitting the name of Vi Kanatz. Discussion was held. The Chairman stated that copies of Don Poss' memo to Vern Ausen dated April 16, 1971 was mailed to each Commissioner. Discussion ensued relative to Mr. Ausen's views as to the advantages of a Board of Adjustments and Appeals. Commissioner Hintzman asked if a member of the Bloomington Board of Adjustments and Appeals could speak on the advantages and disadvantages of a Board of Appeals. Discussion was held. Motion by Commissioner 'Nelsh and seconded by Commissioner McArthur to invite Mayor Cohen and Councilmen Leary, Heck, Britts and Ausen to our next meeting. Discussion was held. Motion carried unanimously. Discussion ensued relative to the procedure to be followed. It was decided to schedule Mayor Cohen, Councilmen Britts, Leary and Heck at 15 minute intervals and each would have a 5 minute presentation. Mr. Ausen would be available for any further questions the Commission would have since his presentation on March 8th. Discussion was held on Mayor Cohen's letter of March 1, 1972. It was decided that Mayor Cohen and Councilmen Leary, Heck, Ausen and Britts be consulted as resource people on two items listed in Mayor Cohen's letter. Mr. Tremere was requested to obtain the voter turn -out totals for the last ten years. The meeting adjourned at 10 :05 P.M. Lorely Olson Secretary
