A d isc ussion ensued relative ten the leWth of meetings as well as t he
sheeting night. It was determined that the Charter Commission would initially
hold weekly meetings on Wednesday nights at 7:30 P.M. and that the adjournment
e would be set at 1 :00 P.M.
A brief discussion ensued relative to the election of an executive committee
for the purpose: of meeting with potential new members.
Commissioner McArthur requested that summaries of state statutes rclattve
to the establishment inef strua;ture of charter commissions be prepared for the
Commission members.
Motion by Commissioner Winkelman and seconded by Commissioner
Vennewitz that the Chairman be authorized to secure for the Commission the
appropriate supplies including brief cases and refreshments necessary for the
execution of the Commission's business. Motion passed unanimously.
Motion by Chairman Dorff and seconded by Commissioner Stanley to
recommend to the City Council that a Certificate of Recognition be issued to former
Charter Commission members for their service. Motion passed unanimously.
Chairman Dorff requested that members unable to attend Commission
meetings should notify the Secretary or himself in advance of the meeting.
Letters frown Mayor Philip Cohen and City Manager Donald Poss which
were submitted to the Chairman relative to matters which could be considered wy
the Commissioh were read and placed on file.
Commissioner McArthur read a memorandum she had prepared concerning
an article in !,he February 1972 issue of "Minnesota Municipalities", entitled
"Municipal Home Rule Challenged". (;opies of the memorandum were distributed
and a bdef discussion ensued.
The meeting adjourned at 16 P.M.
