COMMISSION ACTIONS AND DELIBERATIONS
The Brooklyn Center Charter Commission met four times in 1998: 28 January 1998;
22 April 1998; 24 June 1998; 23 September 1998.
There was discussion on how the Charter deals with hiring of the fire chief and its consistency
with State Law. Carl Wolter and Rodney Snyder discussed this matter with Mike McCauley,
and Stan Leino researched this in the law library. The conclusion was that there was no
inconsistency with State Law.
There was also discussion on whether City Council members should be elected "at large" or in a
"ward" system or some combination thereof. Sy Knapp Nancy Carlson, researched what
methods many other cities were using, gathered information from the League of Minnesota
Cities, and past information from the City of Brooklyn Center dealing with this issue. No further
action has been taken.
We also got the City of Brooklyn Center Charter, and the Charter Commission "Rules of
Procedure on Carl Wolter's computer as well as that of the City Clerk.
Respectfully submitted,
Carl Wolter
