RESOLUTION NO. 77-243
RESOLUTION SETTING WAGES AND SALARIES FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR 1978
WHEREAS, Section 2.07 of the City Charter for the City of Brooklyn Center states
that the City Council is to fix the salary or wages of all officers and employees of the
City; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has considered salaries and wages for the calendar
year 1978:
BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the City Council adopts the following schedule of
positions and maximum salaries and wages for the calendar year 1978:

Normal Progression: A is starting wage, advance 'to step B after six months probationary
period, advance to step C after eighteen months employment. Grade advances within
Council authorized limits shall be at the discretion of the City Manager. Merit steps
shall only be awarded with express approval of the City Council.
Intervals: Grades 1 through 21 equal 2 -1/2 Grades 21 through 25 equal 5 Steps A
through E equal approximately 5

Normal Progression: A is starting wage, succeeding steps represent six month intervals.
Notwithstanding the progression shown in all parts of the Position Classification
Plan which represents typical advancement, the City Manager is authorized to hire and
advance within the maximum limitation set for a position as the situation warrants.
Monthly wage rates may be paid on an hourly basis for hours worked.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager be authorized to employ such
temporary part -time and temporary full -time employees as may be necessary, and to
establish competitive rates of pay for such help consistent with the 1978 budget
appropriations; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that authorized wage adjustments, not to exceed the
maximums contained herein, shall become effective January 1, 1978; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council, in recognition that labor contract
provisions are yet being negotiated with the bargaining unit related to police officers in
the Police Department, extends 1977 wager re tedob ications.

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member
Bill Fignar and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in
favor thereof: Philip Cohen, Tony Kuefler, Bill Fignar, and Gene Lhotka;
and the following voted against the same: none,
whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
