and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 75 -70
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING CONCEPTS OF S.F. 1084 AUTHORIZING
SPECIAL LEVY FOR REDUCTIONS IN ASSESSED VALUATIONS
WHEREAS, assessed valuations reduced by court proceedings, by the
Commissioner of Revenue, or by county boards cause unanticipated reductions
in tax revenues with potentially severe impacts on local government budgets;
and
WHEREAS, S.F. 1084 would authorize a subsequent special levy in
excess of levy limitations in order to compensate for local government revenue
losses due to corrections in property classifications from homestead property
to nonhomestead property:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Brooklyn Center as follows:
1 To support the general concept embodied in S.F. 1084 and
to further support the principle represented therein to the
effect that any similar losses in anticipated tax revenues
should qualify as a subsequent special levy above levy
limitations.
2. To direct that copies of this resolution be transmitted to
the Governor of the State of Minnesota and to legislators
representing the City of Brooklyn Center.
