HomeMy WebLinkAbout1975-073 CCR Member Maurice Britts introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 75 -73 RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE APPLICATION OF H.F. 1124 TO CHARTER CITIES IN THE STATE OF MINNESOTA WHEREAS, H.F. 1124 intends to establish uniform election days for all cities, to narrowly define procedures for treating the manner in which vacant municipal offices would be filled, and to prohibit special elections to fill vacant offices unless certain narrow conditions were met; and WHEREAS, such matters are specifically and properly addressed in city charters and continually monitored by citizen charter commissions in charter cities in Minnesota: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center as follows: 1. To oppose the application of the concepts embodied in H.F. 1124 as they apply to charter cities in the State of Minnesota and to urge that such charter cities be exempted from the proposed provisions of H.F. 1124. 2. To direct that copies of this resolution be transmitted to the Governor of the State of Minnesota, to members of the State Legislature representing Brooklyn Center, and to members of the House Legislation and Veterans Affairs Committee. A pril 7 1975 Date Mayor ATTEST 6'rie rk The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member Robert Jensen and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Philip Cohen, Maurice Britts, Tony Kuefler, Bill Fignar and Robert Jensen; and the following voted against the same: none, whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
