Welcome prospective new member:
Pat Laniel Director of the North Metro Convention and Visitors' Bureau has
volunteered to take former NMCVB head Julie Doth's place on the task force.
Laniel's name will be presented to the City Council for appointment approval. Doth
retired from the Bureau and the Task Force. She was an active and valued
member of this BC Task Force for two years.
P.R. Campaign/Logo Mailing
$200 has been allocated to copy reproducible stats of the Discover the Center Logo
and be sent to Brooklyn Center Businesses. The stats will be sent out via the
Brooklyn Center Chamber of Commerce.
Questions and duties arising from this project were:
• Finding printer, possible chamber member or other Brooklyn Center printing
company, that could print logos cost effectively or at a discount.
How many businesses will this mailing reach and will it only be Chamber
members? If so, what about the rest?
A need for a cover letter explaining the Discover the Center Program briefly and
request for support of the program with suggestions for possible uses for the logo
showing that support.
Dawn and Pat volunteered to work on project and report answers and have a letter
draft at next meeting.
How Does the BC Communication Task Force fit into Brooklyn Center's overall P. R.
Plan?
What is our role?
What part of the Communications Coordinators position has been reassigned?
Is media relations part of someones job description?
Are press releases sent out?
Chair Gaffney will schedule a meeting with City Manager and other concerned parties to
attempt to answer these questions.
Task Force agrees that we can not take the place of a staff person, but are willing to
continue on with specific tasks and support.
It was reported that the Brooklyn Center Post will consider our Task Force submitting a
a monthly column to use as a informative or "good news" spreading vehicle. Benjamin will
call Lauri Winters.
