Member update
The committee discussed attendance at meetings. In the enabling resolution it states that three
consecutive absences constitutes an automatic resignation. Terri mentioned that Phillip Gray
had missed the last three meetings. Dawn Sommers suggested that a letter be sent to Phillip
explaining the situation and asking his intent regarding serving on the committee. Terri will
send.
Internet
City MIS Coordinator O aAbdelwahed explained the Internet and the world wide web to
committee members. He explained that he is working with the City's consortium Logis and
• fellow MIS coordinators to make recommendations on how to move the City into the Internet
world. He stated that pending approval by the city manager, the City should be on the
Internet by mid-January. He offered some suggestions to the committee regarding the City's
use of the Internet. He said that residents who are on the Internet will be able to access
agenda materials, recreation information and any other information that the City feeds into
the network. Security measures will be addressed with the installation of Internet.
Due to time constraints, the task force opted to further discuss uses of Internet until the next
meeting.
Enabling Resolution
Terri distributed the task force's enabling resolution and explained that the resolution needs
to be updated since it doesn't allow for business representatives on the committee. Currently,
Julie Doth and Roxana Benjamin both serve on the committee and are not residents of
Brooklyn Center. Terri suggested that the resolution be updated and submitted to the city
council. The committee decided to review the materials and discuss at the next meeting.
Communications coordinator position
The committee briefly discussed the possibility that the communications coordinator position
would be eliminated for 1995 at the council meeting later that evening. Dawn expressed her
desire to have someone from the committee speak to the council on behalf of the position.
Roxana suggested that chair Bernie Gaffney represent the committee at the council meeting.
Bernie motioned to adjourn the meeting so that he could go to council chambers and attend
the meeting. Julie seconded the motion. The meeting adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
