HomeMy WebLinkAbout1973-031 CCRMember Tony Kuefler introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 73 -31 RESOLUTION CREATING TEMPORARY HOUSING STEERING COMMITTEE AND ESTABLISHING DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES WHEREAS, the Brooklyn Center Human Rights Commission has studied the housing needs of the community and has recommended support for legislation creating a metropolitan Housing and Redevelopment Authority; and WHEREAS, the Human Rights Commission also recommended that Brooklyn Center seek special legislation to authorize establishment of a local Housing and Redevelopment Authority consisting of the City Council; and WHEREAS, on February 5, 1973 the City Council directed the City Manager to prepare the language for such special legislation authorizing a local Housing and Redevelopment Authority; and WHEREAS, Mayor Cohen has recommended the creation of a temporary Housing Steering Committee: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center as follows: 1. That a temporary Housing Steering Committee be established consisting of six members to be appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the City Council, together with a member of the City Council to be appointed by the Mayor to serve as Chairman of the Steering Committee. 2. That the primary functions of the Committee would consist of: a Promoting special legislation leading to the authorization for a local Housing and Redevelopment Authority consisting of City Council members. b. Supporting and promoting general legislation calling for the creation of a metropolitan Housing and' Redevelopment Authority specifically structured along the lines recommended by the Metropolitan Council's Housing Advisory Committee. c. Providing advice regarding the formulation of a Brooklyn Center Housing Commission serving in an advisory capacity to the City Council sitting as the local Housing and Re- development Authority 1 1 Resolution No. 73 -31 March 12, 1973 3. That upon achieving the above objectives and in any event by August 1, 1973 the temporary Housing Steering Committee will be dissolved. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member John Leary, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Philip Cohen, John Leary, Maurice Britts, Tony Kuefler, and Bill Fignar; and the following voted against the same: none, whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
