RESOLUTION NO. 73 -49
Member John Leary introduced the following resolution and moved
its adoption:
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE ADOPTION OF SENATE FILE
342 AND HOUSE FILE 439 INCREASING THE LENGTH OF TRUCKS
PERMITTED ON FOUR LANE STATE HIGHWAYS
WHEREAS, efficiency in transportion is vital to the economy of
the State of Minnesota; and
WHEREAS, Minnesota truck length laws are substantially more
restrictive than the laws of the majority of other states; and
WHEREAS, these variations affect efficiency in operations and
result in increased transportation costs thereby putting Minnesota industry
at a competitive disadvantage; and
WHEREAS, the business and commercial economy of Brooklyn Center
is highly dependent upon efficient and economical truck transportation:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Brooklyn Center as follows:
1. The City Council endorses and supports Senate File 342
and House File 439 which, when adopted, would authorize
65 -foot combinations of truck trailer, semi trailer and
trailer to operate on four lane highways in the State of
Minnesota.
2. The representatives of the people of Brooklyn Center are
herewith called upon to support and work for the adoption
of this legislation and the Clerk is hereby directed to
transmit copies of this resolution to the aforementioned
Representatives, the Chairmen of the appropriate legislative
committees, and to the Governor of the State of Minnesota.

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by
member Tony Kuefler, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted
in favor thereof: Philip Cohen, John Leary, Maurice Britts, Tony Kuefler,
and Bill Fignar;
and the following voted against the same: none,
whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
