moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 73 -62
RESOLUTION OPPOSING CONSOLIDATION OF PROPERTY ASSESSMENT
FUNCTIONS IN HENNEPIN COUNTY
WHEREAS, State laws authorize municipalities having a population
of 30,000 persons or more to appoint assessors having the powers and duties
of the County assessor within their respective municipality, subject to the
general supervision and direction of the County assessor; and
WHEREAS, the City of Brooklyn Center has taken great pains to develop
quality assessment practices and talents meeting and exceeding standards
established by laws and regulations; and
WHEREAS, it has been demonstrated that the quality of assessment in
the City of Brooklyn Center is second to no other jurisdiction, including
Hennepin County; and
WHEREAS, it is important to have within the municipality the ability to
respond timely and fairly to citizens' concerns regarding property valuation and
assessment; and
WHEREAS, the State Department of Taxation has established adequate
guidelines, analytical tools, and sanctions to assure uniformity of property
assessments across jurisdictional lines:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Brooklyn Center as follows:
ATTEST:
1. The City Council opposes any legislation which would diminish
the powers and duties presently vested in the City assessor and
the intent to consolidate all such powers and duties in a single
County assessor.
2. The legislative representatives of the people of Brooklyn Center
are herewith called upon to oppose such legislation, and the
City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit copies of this resolution
to the aforementioned

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by
member Bill Fignar and upon vote being taken thereon, the
following voted in favor thereof: Philip Cohen, John Leary, Maurice Britts,
Tony Kuefler, Bill Fignar;
and the following voted against the same: none,
whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
