HomeMy WebLinkAbout1973-082 CCR1 1 1 Member John Leary introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption. WHEREAS, the leadership of the Hennepin County League of Municipalities is proposing a major reorganization; and WHEREAS, such reorganization comprehends a membership of suburban and outer communities to the exclusion of the central cities; and WHEREAS, such reorganization is intended to emphasize the needs of such suburban and outer communities; and WHEREAS, such reorganization is intended to strengthen the organization and its functions toward an expanded and more active need serving role and to support such strengthening with major increase in financial support and larger staff capability; and WHEREAS, advocates of the reorganization have asserted the need to develop an adversary relationship between central cities and suburbs: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Brooklyn Center City Council to endorse the concept of the development of a suburban organization to advocate suburban interests in the Legislature and Metropolitan Council in a positive fashion. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Brooklyn Center City Council is prepared to actively participate in a suburban advocacy organization on the premise that the policies of such an organization are developed and adopted on the basis of one man one vote representation principles. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Brooklyn Center City Council deplores any proposed organizational policy calling for a return to an adversary relationship on all issues of mutual concern to central cities and suburbs. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Brooklyn Center City Council recommends and urges that the proposed reorganization of the Hennepin County League of Municipalities be further debated, clarified, and refined to the extent that the reorganized structure can embrace the suburban viewpoints of Brooklyn Center and other core suburbs who have long been active in metropolitan affa' ATTEST: RESOLUTION REGARDING REORGANIZATION OF HENNEPIN COUNTY LEAGUE OF MUNICIPALITIES May 21, 1973 Date RESOLUTION NO. 73 -82 Mayor 1 Resolution No. 73 -82 The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member Tony Kuefler and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Philip Cohen, John Leary, Maurice Britts, Tony Kuefler, and Bill Fignar; and the following voted against the same: none, whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
