HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972-105 CCR Member John Leary introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 72 -105 RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING VOTING PRECINCTS FOR THE CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER WHEREAS, the City of Brooklyn Center is presently constituted into eight voting precincts described by a resolution adopted by the Village Council on March 13, 1961; and WHEREAS, a federal census was conducted for the year 1970 which indicated among other things the population distribution within the City of Brooklyn Center; and WHEREAS, on the basis of the 1970 census, a Federal District Court reapportioned Minnesota Legislative Districts and reduced the size of the Minnesota Legislature; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Supreme Court reversed that portion of the Federal District Court Reapportionment Plan relating to reduction in the size of the legislature; and WHEREAS, the Federal District Court in June 1972 developed a new reapportionment plan placing portions of Brooklyn Center into two different Legislative Districts; and WHEREAS, the Federal District Court authorized a 30 -day extension in the statutory deadline for local officials to realign local voting precinct boundaries to the extent they may be affected by new legislative district boundaries; and WHEREAS, the City Council has considered the factors of population distribution within Brooklyn Center, new legislative district lines, community neighborhoods, and various school district boundaries within the City: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED as follows: 1. To rescind the resolution establishing voting districts for the Village of Brooklyn Center adopted by the Village Council on March 13, 1961. 2. In lieu thereof, there shall be established voting precincts in the City of Brooklyn Center, each precinct to be numbered and described as follows: RESOLUTION NO. 72 -105 Precinct One: i` Bounded on the south by the south City limits; on the west by Shingle Creek; on the north by the centerline of County Road 10 to the centerline intersection of 57th Avenue North and Logan Avenue North, thence northerly along the center- line of Logan Avenue North to the centerline of 58th Avenue North, thence easterly along the centerline of 58th Avenue North extended to the Mississippi River; on the east by the Mississippi River. Precinct Two: Bounded on the east by the Mississippi River; on the south by the centerline of 58th Avenue North extended to the center- line of Logan Avenue North, thence southerly along the center- line of Logan Avenue North to the centerline of 57th Avenue North (also known as County Road 10), thence westerly along the centerline of County Road 10 to the centerline of Shingle Creek; on the west by Shingle Creek to the intersection with the centerline of 63rd Avenue North extended, thence easterly along the centerline of 63rd Avenue North extended to the west line of the southeast one quarter of Section 35, Township 119, Range 21, thence northerly along said west line of the south- east quarter of Section 35 to the northwest corner of the south- east one quarter of _Section 35, thence westerly along the south line of the northwest one quarter of Section 35 to the southwest corner of the northwest quarter of Section 35, thence northerly along the west line of the northwest quarter of Section 35 to the north line of Section 35; on the north by the north line of Section 35 and the north line of Section 36 to the centerline of Dupont Avenue North, thence southerly along the centerline of Dupont Avenue North to the south line of the north one -half of Section 36, thence easterly along the south line of the north one -half of Section 36 to the Mississippi River. Precinct Three: Bounded on the south by the south line of the north one -half of Section 36, thence northerly along the centerline of Dupont Avenue North to the north line of Section 36, thence westerly along the north line of Section 36 and the north line of Section 35 to the northwest corner of Section 35; on the west by the west line of the southwest one quarter of Section 26, Township 119, Range 21; on the north by the north City limits; on the east by the Mississippi River. Precinct Four: Bounded on the east by the east line of the southeast quarter of Section 27, Township 119, Range .21; on the south by the south line of Section 27 to its intersection with the centerline of Brooklyn Boulevard, thence southeasterly along the centerline of Brooklyn Boulevard to the centerline of FAI 94, thence westerly along the centerline of FAI 94 to the west City limits; RESOLUTION NO. 72 -105 Precinct Four continued on the west by the west City limits; on the north by the north City limits. Precinct Five: Bounded on the north by the centerline of FAI 94 to the centerline of Brooklyn Boulevard; on the east by the centerline of Brooklyn Boulevard; on the south by the centerline of 63rd Avenue North; on the west by the west City limits. Precinct Six: Bounded on the north by the north line of Section 34, Township 119, Range 21; on the east by the east line of the northeast one quarter of Section 34, thence easterly along the south line of the north- west one quarter of Section 35, thence southerly along the west line of the southeast one quarter of Section 35 to the intersection of the centerline of 63rd Avenue North extended, thence westerly along the centerline of 63rd Avenue North extended to the center- line of Shingle Creek, thence southerly along Shingle Creek to the centerline of County Road 10; on the south by County Road 10; on the west by Brooklyn Boulevard. Precinct Seven: Bounded on the north by the centerline of 63rd Avenue North; on the east by Brooklyn Boulevard; on the south by County Road 10; on the west by the west City limits. Precinct Eiaht: Bounded on the north by County Road 10; on the east by Shingle Creek; on the south by the south City limits; on the west by the west City limits. July 10, 1972 Date Mayor ATTEST: The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member Maurice Britts, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Philip Cohen, John Leary, Vernon Ausen, Howard Heck and Maurice Britts; and the following voted against the same: none, whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
