HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971-047 CCR Member john Leary introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 71 -47 RESOLUTION :OPPOSING ADOPTION OF HOUSE FILE 54 RELATIVE TO ABOLITION OF THE TOWNSHIP SYSTEM OF POOR RELIEF IN HENNEPIN COUNTY WHEREAS, the Township System of Poor Relief in Hennepin County has over the year proved capable of serving the needs for which intended; and WHEREAS, said Township System has been observed to be economically yet fairly administered; and WHEREAS, the County System of Poor Relief has been observed to be always cumbersome, generally inefficiently administered, and frequently failing to fairly accomplish its intent; and WHEREAS, the abolition of the Township System of Poor Relief would impose a sharply increased financial burden on the citizens of Brooklyn Center; and WHEREAS, the proposal to abolish the Township System of Poor Relief represents another element in the piecemeal philosophy of transferring obligations of the City of Minneapolis without total regard for the financial problems of the suburbs: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center as follows: 1. The City Council opposes the provisions of House File 54 which would abolish the Township System of Poor Relief in Hennepin County and substitute in its stead the County System of administering poor relief. 2. The representatives of the people of Brooklyn Center are herewith called upon to oppose such legislation as compre- hended by House File 54. March 8, 1971 zg�r�".z _L.� Date Mayor ATTEST: Clerk The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member Howard Heck, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Philip Cohen, john Leary, Vernon Ausen, and Howard Heck; and the following voted against the same: none, whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
