RESOLUTION NO. 71 -49
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING LEGISLATION WHICH EFFECTIVELY
DISCOURAGES DRUNKEN DRIVING
WHEREAS, many citizens of the State of Minnesota are cognizant
of the growing magnitude of deaths and injuries and property damage resulting
from drunken driving on the streets and highways of the State; and
WHEREAS, the City Council is of the opinion that effective and possibly
severe steps must be taken to discourage driving by intoxicated persons and
thereby protect the safety of its citizens:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Brooklyn Center as follows:
1. The City Council urges the enactment of effective legislation
designed to curb the deaths and injuries wrought by intoxicated
drivers on Minnesota streets and highways. It is specifically
urged that the implied consent concept and licensing controls
be strengthened rather than weakened as proposed by those
sympathetic to the "rights" of the drunken driver.
2. The Representatives of the people of Brooklyn Center are here-
with urged to work for and support such effective legislation,
and the Clerk is hereby directed to transmit copies of this
resolution to such Representatives, to the Chairman of appropriate
Legislative Committees, and to the Governor of the State of
Minne sota
