HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971-049 CCR Member Vernon Ausen introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 71 -49 RESOLUTION SUPPORTING LEGISLATION WHICH EFFECTIVELY DISCOURAGES DRUNKEN DRIVING WHEREAS, many citizens of the State of Minnesota are cognizant of the growing magnitude of deaths and injuries and property damage resulting from drunken driving on the streets and highways of the State; and WHEREAS, the City Council is of the opinion that effective and possibly severe steps must be taken to discourage driving by intoxicated persons and thereby protect the safety of its citizens: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center as follows: 1. The City Council urges the enactment of effective legislation designed to curb the deaths and injuries wrought by intoxicated drivers on Minnesota streets and highways. It is specifically urged that the implied consent concept and licensing controls be strengthened rather than weakened as proposed by those sympathetic to the "rights" of the drunken driver. 2. The Representatives of the people of Brooklyn Center are here- with urged to work for and support such effective legislation, and the Clerk is hereby directed to transmit copies of this resolution to such Representatives, to the Chairman of appropriate Legislative Committees, and to the Governor of the State of Minne sota March 8, 1971 Lace Mayor ATTEST: t G`lerk The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member john Leary and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Philip Cohen, john Leary, Vernon Aus en and Howard Heck; and the following voted against the same: none, whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
