RESOLUTION NO. 71 -75
RESOLUTION APPROVING THE MINNESOTA HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT'S
REQUEST TO AMEND HIGHWAY NO. 100 JOHN MARTIN DRIVE
BRIDGE PLANS APPROVED BY THE BROOKLYN CENTER CITY COUNCIL
BY RESOLUTION NO. 70 -67 ADOPTED JUNE 1, 1970
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center did
by Resolution No. 70 -67 adopted June 1, 1970, approve plans and
special provisions identified as S.P.2755- 44(100 -212), for the
improvement of Trunk Highway No. 212, renumbered as Trunk Highway
No. 100, within the limits of the City of Brooklyn Center; and
WHEREAS, during said plan approval review the City Council
did express apprehensive concern of the traffic movements at the
easterly intersection of Trunk Highway 100 and County Road 10 caused
by the westbound lane of the southeast ramp between the extension of
John Martin Drive and County Road 10; and
WHEREAS, the State Highway Department has re- evaluated the
present and future traffic generations and movements in said area;
and
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Highway Department has determined
that the said westbound lane is not needed in the near future, but
may be needed for future traffic generations; and
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Highway Department has requested approval
from the City of Brooklyn Center to delete said westbound lane from
the construction plans approved by the City Council of the City of
Brooklyn Center by Resolution No. 70 -67 adopted on June 1, 1970,
but that said lane be reconsidered for construction at such time as
traffic generations would warrant it; and
WHEREAS, it is recognized that the construction of said lane
at this time could cause traffic congestion at the easterly ramp of
intersection of Trunk Highway 100 and County Road 10; and
WHEREAS, it has been determined that the present safety con-
siderations should be considered in lieu of future traffic needs.
RESOLUTION NO. 71 -75
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Brooklyn Center to approve and strongly endorse the
Minnesota Highway Department's request to amend a portion of the
Highway No. 100 and John Martin Drive bridge plans which were
approved by the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center by
Resolution No. 70 -67 adopted June 1, 1970, that pertains to deleting
the westbound lane of the southeast leg of the intersection of County
Road 10 and Trunk Highway 100 between the extension of John Martin
Drive and County Road 10; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said lane be considered for con
struction only at such future time as traffic considerations would
warrant it.
