HomeMy WebLinkAbout1970-074 CCR Member Theodore Willard introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 70 -74 RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE CONCEPT OF PRIVATE NON PUBLIC COUNCIL MEETINGS AS PROPOSED BY BROOKLYN CENTER CITY COUNCILMAN. MR. VERNON AUSEN WHEREAS, Councilman Vernon Ausen at a duly held Council meeting on April 13, 1970 proposed that the City Council hold non public "Committee of the Whole" meetings, and WHEREAS, said proposal was reported in the Brooklyn Center Post and the Brooklyn Center -Park Sun that week, and WHEREAS, the City Council at the meeting of April 13th and also in the issues of the forementioned newspapers indicated that the majority consensus of the Council was not in favor of the proposal by Councilman Ausen, and WHEREAS, in the June 17th issue of the Brooklyn Center -Park Sun, Councilman Ausen in an interview again publicly proposed that the non- public Council meetings be held and indicated that nothing has become of his suggestion: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that: 1. The City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center go on record opposing the concept of private meetings as proposed by Councilman Ausen. 2. The City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center affirm its sworn oath ID uphold the laws of the City of Brooklyn Center and the State of Minnesota with respect to the prohibition of private non public Council meetings, i.e. Brooklyn Center City Charter Chapter 3, Section 3.01 and State Statutes M. S.A. Section 471, 705. June 22, 1970 Date AMayor ATTEST:_ f ze' %11 Jerk The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member Howard Heck, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Philip Cohen, John Leary, Howard Heck and Theodore Willard; and the following voted against the same: none, (Vernon Ausen abstained) whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
