Member John Leary introduced the following resolution and moved
its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 69 -84
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE INCREASE OF THE MISDEMEANOR
FINE LIMIT
WHEREAS, in recent court years costs have risen steadily as a result
of a number of factors while the $100.00 misdemeanor find limit has remained
the same since adoption in 1858; and
WHEREAS, the value of the dollar has decline, the existing limit has
become less realistic in terms differentiating between minor offenses and the
more serious misdemeanors; emeanors; and
WHEREAS, the City Council concurs with principles set forth in a
resolution adopted by the League of Minnesota Municipalities regarding
appropriate legislation for increasing misdemeanor fine limit:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Brooklyn Center as follows:
1. The City Council endorses and supports the enactment of
appropriate legislation which would increase the $100.00 fine limit
for misdemeanors to $300.00.
2. The representatives of the prople of Brooklyn Center in the
Senate and House of Representatives are herewith urged to work for
the adoption of such legislation as embodied in Senate File 152 and
House File 253.
3. The Clerk is hereby directed to transmit copies of this resolution
to the Governor of the State of Minnesota, the represen tives of the
32nd Legislative District, and the Chairme a slative committees
February 3, 1969

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by
member Theodore Willard and upon vote being taken thereon, the following
voted in favor thereof: Philip Cohen, Howard Heck, John Leary, Earl Rydberg,
and Theodore Willard;
and the following voted against the same: none,
whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
