Member Theodore Willard introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 69 -85
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING LEGISLATION WHICH WOULD AMEND
1967 MINNESOTA STATUTES 471.196 REGARDING UNCLAIMED MOTOR
VEHICLES, DISPOSITION FOR CITIES OF THE SECOND AND THIRD CLASS
WHEREAS, the problem of junk and abandoned cars is a rapidly grow-
ing one, not only for the central cities; but the suburbs as well; and
WHEREAS, within its eight sgLaremiles the City of Brooklyn Center
now has 35 abandoned and confiscated motor vehicles in its possession ready
for public sale and considerably more strewn about the community; and
WHEREAS, the accumulation of such abandoned and confiscated motor
vehicles results in blight on the environment of the community:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota to seek an amendment of the 1967 Minnesota
Statutes 471.196 as follows:
1. The City Council endorses and supports the adoption of an
amendment to 1967 Minnesota Statutes 471.196 specifically, by
allowing cities of second and third class the same authority to
dispose of unclaimed motor vehicles as cities of the first class.
2. The representative of the people of Brooklyn Center in the Senate
and House of Representatives are herewith urged to work for the adoption
of such an amendment to Minnesota Statutes 471. 196.
3. The Clerk is hereby directed to transmit copies of this resolution
to the Governor of the State of Minnesota, the representatives of the
32nd legislative district, and the chairmen of the appropriate legis-
lative committees.

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by
member Howard Heck and upon vote being taken thereon, the following
voted in favor thereof: Philip Cohen, Howard Heck, John Leary, Earl Rydberg,
and Theodore Willard;
and the following voted against the same: none,
whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
