RESOLUTION NO. 69 -91
RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE LIQUOR FAIR TRADE LAW
WHEREAS, the present law relating to minimum resale prices for
intoxicating liquor, the so- called Liquor Fair Trade Price Law, has not achieved
the results originally intended; and
WHEREAS, the abuses which it was to prevent have continued, largely
as a result of difficulties experienced in enforcing the law; and
WHEREAS, the present Liquor Fair Trade Price Law protects profits
for the brand owners and local Minnesota wholesalers only, and is obviously
not in the public interest; and
WHEREAS, House File 280 and Senate File 84 proposes to authorize
the Liquor Control Commissioner to suspend or revoke off -sale licenses under
an administrative procedure thereby evading a provision for a fair hearing in
a court of law:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Brooklyn Center as follows:
1. The City Council endorses and supports legislation which would
remove the so- called Liquor Fair Trade Price Law and opposes the pro-
visions contained in House File 280 and Senate File 84.
2.. The representatives of the citizens of Brooklyn Center both
in the Senate and House of Representatives are herewith urged to
support such legislation.
3. The Clerk is hereby directed to distribute copies of this
resolution to the Governor of the State of Minnesota, the Senator
and Representative of the 32nd District and to the Chairman of the
