HomeMy WebLinkAbout1969-091 CCR Member Theodore Willard introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 69 -91 RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE LIQUOR FAIR TRADE LAW WHEREAS, the present law relating to minimum resale prices for intoxicating liquor, the so- called Liquor Fair Trade Price Law, has not achieved the results originally intended; and WHEREAS, the abuses which it was to prevent have continued, largely as a result of difficulties experienced in enforcing the law; and WHEREAS, the present Liquor Fair Trade Price Law protects profits for the brand owners and local Minnesota wholesalers only, and is obviously not in the public interest; and WHEREAS, House File 280 and Senate File 84 proposes to authorize the Liquor Control Commissioner to suspend or revoke off -sale licenses under an administrative procedure thereby evading a provision for a fair hearing in a court of law: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center as follows: 1. The City Council endorses and supports legislation which would remove the so- called Liquor Fair Trade Price Law and opposes the pro- visions contained in House File 280 and Senate File 84. 2.. The representatives of the citizens of Brooklyn Center both in the Senate and House of Representatives are herewith urged to support such legislation. 3. The Clerk is hereby directed to distribute copies of this resolution to the Governor of the State of Minnesota, the Senator and Representative of the 32nd District and to the Chairman of the appropriate legislative committees.
