HomeMy WebLinkAbout1968-129 CCRMember Howard Heck introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 68 -129 RESOLUTION PETITIONING THE PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA TO REQUIRE THE INSTALLATION OF SIGNAL DEVICES AT THE INTERSECTION OF THE SOO LINE RAILROAD AND FRANCE AVENUE NORTH IN BROOKLYN CENTER WHEREAS, the Soo Line Railroad intersection with France Avenue North in Brooklyn Center is not presently protected by crossing signals; and WHEREAS, substantial vehicular traffic exceeding 2,000 vehicles per day passes through the intersection; and WHEREAS, the railroad alignment is skewed relative to France Avenue North; and WHEREAS, the railroad alignment contains a curve to the west of France Avenue, further obstructing the view of the motorist; and WHEREAS, the area contains numerous switching and secondary trackages that further compound the problem; and WHEREAS, distant high intensity lighting by private interests makes it difficult to identify on- coming trains at night, particularly to the west of the curve portion: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota to petition the Public Service Commission for a full investigation of the Soo Line Railroad intersection with France Avenue leading to the installation of crossing signal devices as may be deemed necessary for the protection of the general public. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a fair and equitable division of costs be determined between the Soo Line Railroad Company and t public authorities. ATTEST: June 3, 1968 Date lerk Mayor The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member John Leary and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Philip Cohen, John Leary, Howard Heck and Theodore Willard; and the following voted against the same: none, whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
