HomeMy WebLinkAbout1967-366 CCR1 1 Member Howard Heck introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION REGARDING ASSIGNMENTS OF RESPONSIBILITY TO STATE DEPARTMENTS OF AGRICULTURE AND HEALTH WHEREAS, the Brooklyn Center City Council on February 27, 1967 adopted a resolution No. 67 -56 opposing legislation which would tend to expand the authority of the State Department of Agriculture; and WHEREAS, copies of resolution No. 67 -56 were transmitted to the Governor of the State of Minnesota and to representatives of the people of Brooklyn Center and the State Senate and House of Representatives; and WHEREAS, regardless, state authorities saw fit to expand the authorities and responsibilities of the State Department of Agriculture; and WHEREAS, it has been adequately and obviously demonstrated in recent months that the State Department of Agriculture either cannot or will not effectively regulate those assigned activities which affect the public health; and WHEREAS, it is the belief and position of the Brooklyn Center City Council that it is inconsistent and unreasonable to expect that an agency can promote the state agricultural industry and at the same time responsibly regulate and police that industry in order to protect and preserve the public health: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota that the Governor of the State of Minnesota as head of the executive branch of government, and the appropriate legislative committees are respectfully petitioned to initiate a reorganization of state administrative and regulatory activities affecting the field of public health which would accomplish the following: a. Remove from the State Department of Agriculture all regulatory authority in the areas of retail food sales, processing and dispensation, and reassign said regulatory authority to the State Department of Health in the interest of preserving and protecting the public health. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit copies of this resolution to the Governor of the State of Minnesota, the represen- tatives of the people of Brooklyn Center in the State Senate and House of Representatives, and to the Chairman of the appropriate legislative committees. December 11, 1967 RESOLUTION NO. 67 -366 1 1 Resolution No. 67 -366 The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member Theodore Willard and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Philip Cohen, John Leary, Gordon Erickson, Howard Heck and Theodore Willard, and the following voted against the same: none, whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
