adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 67 -298
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A UNITED STATES
POST OFFICE IN AND FOR THE CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER AND
REQUESTING THE SUPPORT OF THE CONGRESSIONAL REPRESENTATIVES
FOR THIS AREA IN THE ACCOMPLISHMENT OF THIS GOAL
WHEREAS, the City of Brooklyn Center, a city of approximately 32, 000
persons, is presently the 11th most populous municipality in the State of
Minnesota; and
WHEREAS, postal service for Brooklyn Center is now provided by two
branch stations of the Minneapolis Post Office, one in North Minneapolis, and
one in the City of Robbinsdale, both of which are a substantial distance from
Brooklyn Center,, and
WHEREAS, the City Council has been made aware of severe inconveniences
to the residential and business members of the community due to the lack of easy
access to postal facilities in the area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Brooklyn Center, that the concept of the establishment of a Post Office for the
City of Brooklyn Center is hereby strongly endorsed, and that the City shall
offer its services in helping the Post Office Department to select a location
for such a, post office within the City which will provide this necessary service
without having a congesting or detrimental effect on adjacent roadways and
properties.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be directed to
the Representatives of the people of Brooklyn Center in the Congress of the
United States, requesting that they support this concept and aid in the
establishment of a Post Office within Brooklyn Center as sQ10n as is practicable.

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by
member Theodore Willard and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted
in favor thereof: Philip Cohen, john Leary, Gordon Erickson, Howard Heck
and Theodore Willard,
and the following voted against the same: none,
whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
