HomeMy WebLinkAbout1967-208 CCR Member Theodore Willard introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 67 -208 RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE LOCATION OF THE NORTH HENNEPIN COUNTY JUNIOR COLLEGE AT THE SITE RECOMMENDED BY THE NORTH HENNEPIN TUNIOR COLLEGE COMMITTEE WHEREAS, the State Legislature in 1963 established the State Junior College Board, and provided for the establishment of junior colleges through- out the state, including the Twin Cities metropolitan area; and WHEREAS, the State Legislature in 1965 specifically provided that one of the future junior colleges was to be located within Northwest Hennepin County; and WHEREAS, a committee known as the North Hennepin junior College Committee, consisting of civic, business, educational, and governmental leaders of north Hennepin County, was established in December of 1963 for the purpose of first, encouraging the establishment of a junior college in the North Hennepin County area, and secondly, aiding the junior College Board in determining which site within the Northwest Hennepin County area should be used for the college; and WHEREAS, the first of these purposes was accomplished by the Legislature in 1963, and the second, the selection of the specific site, was established by resolution of the junior College Board on February 17, 1967, being the site suggested to the Board by the North Hennepin junior College Committee, consisting of approximately 80 acres of land lying in the southeast quadrant of the intersection of County Roads 103 and 109 within the Village of Brooklyn Park; and WHEREAS, the State Legislature has authorized the initial expenditure of monies for the construction of Northwest Hennepin junior College, with the proviso that the actual site for the college be provided to it as a gift; and WHEREAS, the North Hennepin junior College Committee has instituted a drive to purchase the site designated by the junior College Board as described above, for donation of these lands to the Board; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center has previously supported the location of a junior college within Northwest Hennepin County, and, more specifically, the location of the college on the site selected by both the North Hennepin County junior College Committee and the State junior College Board: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center supports the choice of the junior College Board RESOLUTION NO. 67 -208 designating the site in the southeast quadrant of the intersection of County Roads 103 and 109 as the site for this long- awaited and much- needed facility. Tune 26, 1967 Date Mayor ATTEST: L� Clerk The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member Howard Heck, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Philip Cohen, john Leary, Gordon Erickson, Howard Heck, and Theodore Willard, and the following voted against the same: none, whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
