HomeMy WebLinkAbout1967-011 CCR Member Theodore Willard introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 67 -11 RESOLUTION REQUESTING SIDEWALK AMENDMENT TO MUNICIPAL STATE AID LAWS WHEREAS, Section 162.14 of the Minnesota Statutes defines the purposes for which Municipal State Aid monies shall be used; and WHEREAS, said Section 162.14 provides for the expenditure of Municipal State Aid funds for safety devices on the State Aid Streets system; and i Y WHEREAS, the Commissioner of Highways has not construed initial sidewalk installation along the Municipal State Aid Street system as a safety device eligible for the expenditure of Municipal State Aid monies; and WHEREAS, it is the experience of the City of Brooklyn Center that the p Y Y vehicular thoroughfares represented by the Municipal State Aid Street system also tend to serve as pedestrian thoroughfares as well, thereby creating a safety conflict; and WHEREAS, it is the position of the City of Brooklyn Center that initial sidewalk installation along the Municipal State Aid Street system should therefore be eligible for the expenditure of Municipal State Aid monies; and i WHEREAS, it is the position of numerous engineers representing Minnesota municipalities that they favor Municipal State Aid participation in initial sidewalk construction along Municipal State Aid Streets. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center to request its legislators to introduce legislation to amend Section 162.14 of the Minnesota Statutes to provide that Municipal State Aid monies may be expended for the installation of initial sidewalks on the Municipal State Aid Street system.
