HomeMy WebLinkAbout1967-038 CCR Member Theodore Willard introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 67 -38 RESOLUTION SUPPORTING AN ANTI PORNOGRAPHY BILL PERTAINING TO MINORS WHEREAS, numerous and well qualified experts have established beyond any reasonable doubt that exposure of juveniles to obscene or pornographic literature will increase the incidence of juvenile delinquency and crime relating to sexual activity; and WHEREAS, the United States Supreme Court has recognized the legitimate interest of states in preventing the dissemination of material deemed harmful to children and has stated by implication that a different test would be applied in such cases as set forth in acobel 's s PP T h v State of Ohio, 378 U.S. 184; and WHEREAS, parents, educators, statewide public service organiza- tions, and concerned public officials have evidenced their support of measures designed to prevent dissemination of pornographic materials deemed harmful to children: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center as follows: 1. The City Council endorses and supports the proposals embodied in House File 352 and Senate File 386, Anti pornography Bill Pertaining to Minors. 2. The Clerk is hereby instructed to direct copies of this resolution to the Governor of the State of Minnesota, the representatives from the 32nd District, the legislative committees concerned with such legislation, and the authors of the bill.
