RESOLUTION NO. 67 -55
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE ADOPTION OF SENATE FILE
183 AND HOUSE FILE 249 INCREASING THE LENGTH OF
TRUCKS PERMITTED ON STATE HIGHWAYS
WHEREAS, efficiency in transportation is vital to the economy of
the State of Minnesota and affects every citizen of the State; and
WHEREAS, Minnesota truck length laws are substantially more
restrictive than the laws of our neighboring states; and
WHEREAS, these variations significantly affects efficiency in

operations and results in increased transportation costs thereby putting
Minnesota industry at a competitive disadvantage with industry in our
sister states; and
WHEREAS, the economy of Brooklyn Center is highly dependent
upon efficient and economical truck transportation:
NOW THEREFORE O BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Brooklyn Center as follows:
1. The City Council endorses and supports Senate File 183
and House File 249, which, when adopted, would authorize
55 foot lengths for tractor semi trailer combinations, 60 foot
lengths for auto transporters, and 65 foot lengths for other
combinations (doubles) on highways designated by the
Commissioner of Highways.
2. The representatives of the people of Brooklyn Center are
herewith called upon to support and work for the adoption
of this legislation, and the Clerk is hereby directed to
transmit copies of this resolution to the aforementioned
representatives, the chairman of the appropriate legislative
committees, and to the Governor of the State of Minnesota.

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded
by member Howard Heck and upon vote being taken thereon, the
following voted in favor thereof: Philip Cohen, John Leary, Howard Heck,
Gordon Erickson and Theodore Willard,
and the following voted against the same: none,
whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
