HomeMy WebLinkAbout1967-063 CCR Member Theodore Willard introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 67 -63 RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE ADOPTION OF LEGISLATION WHICH IMPOSES PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR DAMAGE DONE BY MINORS WHEREAS, a substantial amount of the damage and vandalism done by juveniles can be attributed to insufficient parental concern for the whereabouts and activities of their children; and WHEREAS, the imposition of legal financial responsibility upon the parents for property damage inflicted by their minor children would provide the agrieved property owner with a method of redress, as well as providing incentive to the parental control of the activities of children; and WHEREAS, the imposition of such responsibility by other states has seemingly had the aforementioned desired effects, and the City Council deems such legislation to be desireable for the State of Minnesota: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center as follows: 1. The City Council endorses and supports the proposals embodied in Senate File 217 and House File 224 relative to the imposition of limited financial responsibility upon the parents of minor children for property damage inflicted by such minor children, and the representatives of the people of Brooklyn Center are herewith urged to work for the adoption of this legislation. 2. The Clerk is hereby directed to transmit copies of this resolution to the Governor of the State of Minnesota, the representatives of the 32nd legislative district, and the chairmen of the appropriate legislative committees. March 6, 1967 6fd Date Mayor ATTEST: Clerk The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member Howard Heck and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Philip Cohen, john Leary, Howard Heck, Gordon Erickson and Theodore Willard, and the following voted against the same: none, whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
