HomeMy WebLinkAbout1967-076 CCR Member Gordon Erickson introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 67 -76 RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE INTRODUCTION AND ADOPTION OF SPECIAL LEGISLATION PERTAINING TO THE CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER FIREMEN'S RELIEF ASSOCIATION WHEREAS the provisions of Minnesota Statutes pertaining to volunteer firemen in cities of the second class do not adequately relate to a fire department in an urban setting staffed completely by volunteer personnel, nor was such a relation apparently intended; and WHEREAS, the pension and benefit schedule for volunteer fire personnel as set forth in Minnesota Statutes is inadequate and is not in proportion to the services rendered by such volunteer personnel to the community; and WHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed the attached proposed legislation and is in agreement therewith; and WHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed anactuarial analysis of the financial implications of the proposed legislation and finds: a. that the cost thereof is reasonable, and is justified by the service rendered to the community by the volunteer fire personnel. b. that it is within the financial capacity of the municipality to finance the proposal; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that such legislation is required to maintain a viable and effective volunteer fire department: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center as follows: 1. The representatives of the people of Brooklyn Center in the Senate and the House of Representatives are respectfully requested to introduce the attached bill in the 1967 session of the State Legislature, and thereafter, to work for its adoption 2. The membership of the Senate and House of Representatives are respectfully requested to give early and favorable consideration to this legislation. 3. The Clerk is hereby directed to transmit copies of this resolution to the Governor of the State of Minnesota, and the representatives of the 32nd Legislative District.
