HomeMy WebLinkAbout1966-334 CCR Member john Leary introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 66 -334 RESOLUTION APPOINTING GORDON M. ERICKSON TO SERVE AS A MEMBER OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER, MINNESOTA WHEREAS, on November 8, 1966 the voters of the Village of Brooklyn Center approved and adopted a Home Rule Charter establishing a City Form of Government; and WHEREAS, the adoption of the Charter, which became effective December 8, 1966, created a vacancy on the City Council since the Clerk who was elected under the former Village Form of Government is now appointed by the City Manager, whose duties do not include voting or performing other Council duties as was the case with a Village Form of Government; and WHEREAS, the City Charter provides that a vacancy on the Council shall be filled temporarily by the Council by a majority vote to serve until a City Councilman is elected by the voters at the next regular election and takes office; and WHEREAS, the City Council has considered what qualified citizen could best serve in this important position: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center that the Council finds Gordon M. Erickson well suited and highly qualified to serve as a member of the City Council and fill said vacancy by virtue of the following: 1. He has a successful record of public service including 4 years as Mayor of the Village of Brooklyn Center, 2. He is presently the Chairman of the Capital Improvement Review Board and was Chairman of the Capital Improvement Steering Committee which set up the CIRB, 3. Because of his past record he possesses a thorough present knowledge of local problems and issues, including those involving our schools, 4. He is mindful of the need for planning on a metropolitan basis and in this regard has a reputation among officials of neighboring communities and at all levels of government; Resolution No. 66 -334 (continued) I I BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Gordon M. Erickson is hereby appointed to the position of City Councilman of the City of Brooklyn Center, said appointment to be effective on this day, Monday, December 19, 1966, and continue until a successor is elected by the voters of the City of Brooklyn Center at the next regular election and takes office in accordance with the City Charter. December 19, 1966 Date Mayor ATTEST: Clerk The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member Howard Heck, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Philip Cohen, Howard Heck, john Leary and Theodore Willard, and the following voted against the same: none, whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
