moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 66 -9
RESOLUTION DIRECTING THE DESIGN OF CERTAIN
SIGNS FOR THE PURPOSE OF ADVERTISING BROOKLYN CENTER
WHEREAS, the Village Council believes that the populace of the
metropolitan area does not generally recognize Brooklyn Center as to its
location, size and extent of development; and
WHEREAS, it is the belief of the Council that this lack of recognition
is detrimental to the timely and full development of the community; and
WHEREAS, it is further the belief of the Council that one action which
would promote such recognition is the erection of signs on major arterial
streets and highways upon which traffic enters Brooklyn Center, said signs
being readily visible day and night, proclaiming the fact of entry into
Brooklyn Center, and state or illustrate, as may be determined feasible, a
motto or fact which would tend to encourage or promote development within
Brooklyn Center,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE Village Council of the
Village of Brooklyn Center that the Administrative Staff, in cooperation with
the Industrial Development Commission and Chamber of Commerce, be in-
structed to prepare and submit for Council approval, designs and drawings
depicting proposals for appropriate signs for future purchase and installation
at sites to be recommended jointly by the Administrative Staff, Industrial
Development Commission and Chamber of Commerce.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the design and installation of said
signs be scheduled to coincide with, or follow closely, the time at which
the Village of Brooklyn Center becomes the City of Brooklyn Center.
