HomeMy WebLinkAbout1965-006 CCR Member Tohn Leary introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 65 -6 RESOLUTION REJECTING THE PROPOSAL OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF THE LEAGUE OF MINNESOTA MUNICIPALITIES ON NEW SOURCES OF REVENUE FOR MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT WHEREAS, the Executive Committee of the League of Minnesota Municipalities has recommended for adoption by the full membership of the League a resolution calling upon the State Legislature to impose a series of selected user taxes upon the people of Minnesota, the revenues derived from said taxes to be shared with the municipalities of the State; and WHEREAS, the proposed taxes do not stand as a meaningful solution to the problems existent in an antiquated tax structure and only add further to the present patchwork of taxes; and WHEREAS, the proposed taxes are discriminatory and inequitable; and WHEREAS, the above mentioned proposal fails to recognize the need for a comprehensive review and revision of the present tax structure; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Village Council of the Village of Brooklyn Center as follows: 1. The Village Clerk be instructed to cast a negative vote on the proposed resolution on new sources of revenue for municipal g overnments 2. A copy of this resolution be certified to the Executive Committee of the League of Minnesota Municipalities as an expression of the Village Council's opinion. d F Tanuary 11, 1965 Date r Mayor ATTEST: Clerk The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member Phil Cohen and upon vote being taken thereon the following voted in favor thereof: Gordon Erickson, Howard Heck, John Leary, Phil Cohen and Earl Simons and the following voted against the same: None; whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
