RESOLUTION NO. 65 -18
RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE ADOPTION OF S.F. NO. 286 AND
CALLING FOR A COMPREHENSIVE REFORM OF THE STATE TAX
STRUCTURE
WHEREAS, the Village Council of the Village of Brooklyn Center recognizes
that the continued growth of industry is fundamental to the economic well being
of the north Hennepin County area; and
WHEREAS, a certain bill, designated S.F. 268, has been introduced in the
Legislature of the State of Minnesota; and
WHEREAS, said bill would unduly burden the extractors of sand and gravel
in a major portion of north Hennepin County with unjust and discriminatory taxation
and render them unable to compete favorably with similar extractors outside of
the north Hennepin County area; and
WHEREAS, passage of said bill would reduce the value of deposits of
sand and gravel in the affected area, thus adversely affecting the base for a
significant amount of industrial development; and
WHEREAS, the Village Council opposes further piecemeal modification of
the tax structure, and desires a comprehensive reform of the State tax program;
and
WHEREAS, the Village Council opposes the adoption of any sort of local
excise or occupation tax;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Village Council of the Village
of Brooklyn Center as follows:
1. The adoption of said bill actively opposed and all residents of the
north Hennepin County area are urged to work against its adoption.
2. Copies of this resolution shall be certified to the Governor of the
State of Minnesota, the Chairman of the Senate Education Committee, the Chairman
of the House Education Committee and the Senator and Representatives of the
