HomeMy WebLinkAbout1965-018 CCR Member john Leary introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 65 -18 RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE ADOPTION OF S.F. NO. 286 AND CALLING FOR A COMPREHENSIVE REFORM OF THE STATE TAX STRUCTURE WHEREAS, the Village Council of the Village of Brooklyn Center recognizes that the continued growth of industry is fundamental to the economic well being of the north Hennepin County area; and WHEREAS, a certain bill, designated S.F. 268, has been introduced in the Legislature of the State of Minnesota; and WHEREAS, said bill would unduly burden the extractors of sand and gravel in a major portion of north Hennepin County with unjust and discriminatory taxation and render them unable to compete favorably with similar extractors outside of the north Hennepin County area; and WHEREAS, passage of said bill would reduce the value of deposits of sand and gravel in the affected area, thus adversely affecting the base for a significant amount of industrial development; and WHEREAS, the Village Council opposes further piecemeal modification of the tax structure, and desires a comprehensive reform of the State tax program; and WHEREAS, the Village Council opposes the adoption of any sort of local excise or occupation tax; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Village Council of the Village of Brooklyn Center as follows: 1. The adoption of said bill actively opposed and all residents of the north Hennepin County area are urged to work against its adoption. 2. Copies of this resolution shall be certified to the Governor of the State of Minnesota, the Chairman of the Senate Education Committee, the Chairman of the House Education Committee and the Senator and Representatives of the Thirtieth Legislative District.
