Member Earl Simons introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 65 -26
RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE ADOPTION OF HOUSE FILE NUMBER
488 PERTAINING TO THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF CONTRIBUTIONS TO
THE PUBLIC EMPLOYEES RETIREMENT ASSOCIATION
WHEREAS, House File #488 is a bill for an act which was introduced at
the request of the PERA Board of Trustees and calls for an increase in the base
of contributions for both the employer and employee to the total individual
salary paid rather than the present individual maximum of $4,800; and
WHEREAS, adoption of this bill would place a significant burden on both
the employee and the employing governmental unit without granting comensurate
benefit; and
WHEREAS, said bill is only one of many introduced at the request of the
PERA Board of Directors in an effort to stabilize the resources of the Association,
all of which ignore the increased burden placed upon the employee and employer
and offer no long range solution to the problems surrounding the resources of the
Association;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Village Council of the Village
of Brooklyn Center as follows:
1. The adoption of House File #488 is actively opposed and all representatives
are called upon to work for the defeat of said bill.
2. Copies of this resolution shall be certified to the Governor of the State
of Minnesota, the Chairman of the House Committee on Civil Administration and
the representatives of the Thirtieth Legislative District.
