HomeMy WebLinkAbout1965-037 CCR Member Howard Heck introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 65 -37 RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE ADOPTION OF HOUSE FILE NUMBER 570 PERTAINING TO THE CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE OF STREETS. ROADS, ETC. WHEREAS, a bill for an act designated House File Number 570 has been introduced in the House of Representatives of the State of Minnesota; and WHEREAS, the adoption of said bill would impose unwarranted restrictions upon the cities, villages, and borough of the State, and would unduly limit the capacity of such political subdivisions toefficiently utilize their employees and equipment in the best interest of their respective publics; and WHEREAS, the imposition by the Legislature of additional restrictions upon the governing bodies of the several political subdivisions violated the concept of "home- rule" and thereby works against the assumption that the people of a community are capable of determining the policies for their community said assumption being fundamental to the American philosophy of government: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Village Council of the Village of Brooklyn Center as follows: 1. That House File Number 570 is actively opposed and all representatives to the Legislature of the State of Minnesota are called upon to work against its adoption. 2. That copies of this resolution be certified to the Governor of the State of Minnesota, the Chairman of the House Highways Committee, and to the representatives of the Thirtieth Legislative District. March 15, 1965 Date Mayor ATTEST: Clerk The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member Earl Simons and upon vote being taken thereon the following voted in favor thereof: Gordon Erickson, Howard Heck, Phil Cohen, John Leary and Earl Simons, and the following voted against the same: None; whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
