HomeMy WebLinkAbout1963 04-02 LSCMMinutes of the Proceedings of the Library Commission of the Village of Brooklyn Center in the County of Hennepin and State of Minnesota April 2, 1963 The meeting was called to order by Mr. Billings with one committee member absent. The speaker for the evening was Mr. Robert Crab of the Dayton Development Corporation who spoke on plans for the Brookdale area and suggest- ions for a community library. Mr. Crab began by saying that he felt that a library could be of benefit to a regional shopping center. Shopping centers tend to become community centers. Brookdale already draws from north Minneapolis and many of the surrounding suburbs, based on driving time and traffic barriers. The Dayton Development Corporation is already working on the future development of Brookdale Center. They are already leasing area in the new development. Mr. Crab showed the committee members maps of Brookdale itself as well as maps showing tentative plans for the surrounding area. In discussion library location, Mr. Crab indicated that he would investigate the possibilities of locating within the center itself as well as on the land surrounding the center. He said that he would contact Mr. Billings with his findings. He felt that our main determinations for the library would be in location and needs in terms of building and parking. His comments on the commissions ##1 site were that the size of the lot would be a limiting factor. A committee member suggested the possibility of rerouting Northport Drive to alleviate this situation. Finally Mr. Crab felt that the library should be geared primarily to automobile and bicycle traffic. An investigation of parking needs for the library is to be undertaken so that these needs can be included in library plans. April 30 has been set as the date for our meeting with Mir. Hodne. The meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Caroline Roisum 0
