HomeMy WebLinkAbout1963 04-22 LSCMMinutes of the Proceedings of the Library Commission of the Village of Brooklyn Center in the County of Hennepin and State of Minnesota April 22, 1963 The meeting was called to order by the chairman with three members absent. The speaker for the evening was Mr. Thomas Hodne of Hodne Associates, whose firm conducted the study of the Earle Brown land and the village. He was to speak to the committee on the future land uses of the village and how the library would fit in with the projected plan. Before Mr. Hodne spoke, Mr. Billings announced that Mr. Lee said the village could easily adjust Northport Drive to give the area proposed for the library more space. This would give the proposed site approximately 31, 000 square (226 by 138 feet ) which would allow enough area to park 100 cars, according to Mr. Hannay. A building 8, 000 to 10, 000 square feet, as recommended, would use less than half the lot. Mr. Hodne was asked to comment. He suggested planning for 100 per cent expansion to accomodate village expansion. The committee agreed that since the site seemed to meet all • specifications, the committee should now concern itself with the building. It was agreed that the program to be offered by the library would determine the design of the building. It was then decided to do some research on library programing in order to have recommendations to present to an architect. Mr. Hodne then spoke on the general outline of village planning. He specifically said that the committee's choice of a library site was appropriate because Brookdale is the core of the Village and will become so regardless of other developments. This is true because of the traffic pattern of highways and internal roads. It was moved and seconded and passed that Mr. Billings ask the city engineer to give the committee a detailed plat of the land involved. Respectfully submitted, Barbara B.
