HomeMy WebLinkAbout1963 10-01 IDCMMINUTES OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT COMMISSICN OF THE VILLAGE OF BROOKLYN CENTER IN THE COUNTY OF HENNE P IN AND STATE OF MINNESOTA October 1 , 1963 The October 1st meeting of the Industrial Development Commission was called to order by Chairman, Edwin Burt at 8.00 P.M. ROLL CALL: Edwin Burt, Marshall Jacobson, Harry Johnson, Frank Kampmeyer, Dallas Lawrence, Wayne Lubrecht, Ernee McArthur, Roger Machmeier, Robert Osl und, Earl Rydberg, Earl Simons According to the attendance records, Arthur Raeker has missed three consecutive meetings without having been granted formal consenXt by the Commission. The Council w i l l be not i f ied of h i s resignation so a new appointment can be made. Minutes of the September 3rd meeting were corrected to read September 3rd and not September 2nd. Motion by Dallas Lawrence, and seconded by Harry Johnson to approve minutes as corrected and recorded. Motion carried. Art Lee and Edwin Burt reported on the meeting held on September 9th with the University Committee. Present at the meeeting were representatives of the Council, Plan ningCommission, Industrial Development Commission, Administration,'and Brooklyn Center School Staff. The Liaison Committee between the Village and the University is as follows: (or their alternates) 1. Mayor Gordon Erickson 2. Al Kattar, Chairman of the Planning Commission 3. Edwin Burt, Chairman of the Industrial Development Commission 4. Art Lee, Village Administrator 5. Ben Davidson, School Board Chairman of District 286. The following facts were called to the members attention In regard to the Ear le Bran n Farm; I . The I and wl I I be converted pr imar i I y i nto an industrial -commercial park. 2. The University is scheduled to take possession of the 450 •ere farm by March 12, 1964. It Is possible the estate administrators may ask the University to take possession sooner. 3. Sale of the land will be compatible with objectives of both the University and the Vi l lage. 4. The University has contacted a market analyst to pre- pare a Peas ibi 1 l fy report on the best way of developing and disposing of the property. Motion by Robert Oslund, and seconded by Frank Kampmeyer that Dallas Lawrence be appointed as alternate to Edwin Burt on the Liaison Committee. Motion carried. A • -2- Minnesota Mi I is (Northbrook Shopping Center) has designated October 14th as their grand opening. Motion by Robert Oslund and seconded by Roger Machme)er that a sub-committee to the Publicity Committee be appointed to prepare an outline for a simple, single-sheet brochure. Sixty days was the designated time for its preparation. Notion carried. The following 6ommi t tee was appointed: Harry Johnson Earl Rydberg Frank Kampmeyer Roger Machmeler (Publicity Chairman- Ex-office) 40 Motion by Roger Machmeier, and seconded by Ernee McArthur that a committee be appointed to investigate the tax base situation in Brooklyn Center. Motion carried. The following committee was appointed; Earl Simons Ernee McArthur Members were encouraged to bring names of possible leads or suggestions to Commission meetings. The Publicity Committee called to the members attention the article appearing in the Press in regard to our statement on the need for a library in Brooklyn Center. The members discussed establishing an Existing Businessmanrs Committee. No action was taken. Motion by Dallas Lawrence, and seconded by Marsh Jacobson that the meeting be adjourned.
