HomeMy WebLinkAbout1989 06-12 EDAM Special Session1 MINUTES OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER IN THE COUNTY OF HENNEPIN AND THE STATE OF MINNESOTA SPECIAL SESSION JUNE 12, 1989 CITY HALL CALL TO ORDER The Brooklyn Center Economic Development Authority met in special session and was called to order by President Dean Nyquist at 10:07 p.m. ROLL CALL President Dean Nyquist, and Commissioners Todd Paulson and Philip Cohen. Also present were EDA Director Gerald Splinter, Director of Planning and Inspection Ron Warren, City Attorney Charlie LeFevere, EDA Coordinator Brad Hoffman, and Administrative Aide Patti Page. President Nyquist noted Commissioners Scott and Pedlar were absent from this evening's meeting. APPROVAL OF MINUTES MAY 22. 1989 SPECIAL SESSION There was a motion by Commissioner Paulson and seconded by President Nyquist to approve the minutes of the May 22, 1989, Economic Development Authority meeting. The motion passed. Commissioner Cohen abstained from the vote. RESOLUTIONS The EDA Director presented a Resolution Accepting Bids and Approving Contracts for Heritage Center Amenities Project No. 89 -02. The EDA Coordinator stated this is the last contract that needed to be bid for restoration of the farm. He noted he hopes to have the final tabulation of all bids by the next meeting. RESOLUTION NO. 89 -15 Commissioner Philip Cohen introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION ACCEPTING BIDS AND APPROVING CONTRACTS FOR HERITAGE CENTER AMENITIES PROJECT NO. 89 -02 The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Commissioner Todd Paulson, and the motion passed unanimously. The EDA Director presented a Resolution Acquiring Excess MNDOT property. He noted this item was discussed at the meeting on May 22, 1989, at which time the Commissioners directed staff to put together an acquisition package. RESOLUTION NO. 89 -16 Commissioner Todd Paulson introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: 6/12/89 -1- RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF EXCESS MNDOT LAND The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Commissioner Philip Cohen, and the motion passed unanimously. DISCUSSION ITEM DEMOLITION OF BLACKSMITH SHOP The EDA Director stated originally plans were to move the blacksmith shop on to the property for future use. He noted in order to use the building the siding, roof, and windows would have to be removed and replaced. He noted at this point the only thing which would be saved from the blacksmith shop is the framing and even some of that needed to be reinforced and rebuilt. He explained after the contractors' reviewed this building they suggested demolishing it and replicating it. He noted if all that is being saved of the existing blacksmith shop is the framing, no one would ever see it. He stated staff proposes to demolish the blacksmith shop and replicate it on the site. He noted key items from the existing building would be saved. He stated there would be a financial savings of approximately $8,000, and the project would be gaining a far superior building and much more usable space on the second level. There was a motion by Commissioner Cohen and seconded by Commissioner Paulson to demolish the existing blacksmith shop and replicate it on the site. The motion passed unanimously. ADJOURNMENT There was a motion by Commissioner Paulson and seconded by Commissioner Cohen to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
